Top Rank's CEO, Bob Arum, says Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32KOs) is more interested in accepting a fight with IBF/WBA 'regular' super middleweight champion Carl Froch than he is in a possible fight with WBA/IBO/WBC interim-middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs).
Chavez, currently in a legal tussle with his promoter Top Rank, wants to become the first Mexican fight to win a title at 168-pounds. Froch is so determined to fight Chavez, in Las Vegas, that he's willing to drop vacate his IBF title to avoid a mandatory defense against James DeGale.
"Chavez hasn't come to me and said that he wants Triple G. At one point we tried to put that fight together. I think, realistically, the fight that Chavez would most like is with Carl Froch," Arum told BoxingScene.com.
Froch's promoter, Eddie Hear, hopes Chavez and Top Rank are able to clear up their legal issue. He wants to match Froch against Chavez in the first quarter of next year.
