According to Primera Hora, two of the best amateur boxers in Puerto Rico, McWilliams and McJoe Arroyo, have signed with Puerto Rico Best Boxing to start their pro careers. The Arroyo brothers are only the second set of twin brothers in the history of boxing to qualify for the Olympics.
24-year-old McWilliams Arroyo is best known for winning the Gold Medal at flyweight at the 2009 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Milan and in the 2007 PanAmerican games. McJoe Arroyo is best known for winning a bronze medal at the 2007 World Amateur Boxing Championships as a bantamweight.
McJoe will debut at 118 pounds without closing the door for a move up to 122 pounds, while McWilliams will start at 112 pounds and hopes soon to get 115. They started training in October and plans to debut in February.
"We signed the Arroyo brothers who are great prospects that we hope will reach their dreams of becoming world champions in the future and we will support them throughout this process," said PR Best Boxing president Ivan Rivera. "We know the talent of these youths and will work with them to bring them to where they want."
