Anthony Dirrell dominated Norbert Nemesapati on Friday night the way the extremely wide odds and their resumes suggested he should.
Dirrell, a former WBC world super middleweight champion, stopped Nemesapati after six one-sided rounds in a scheduled 10-rounder in Hialeah, Florida. The 32-year-old Dirrell improved to 30-1-1 and recorded his 24th knockout against an overmatched opponent in Dirrell’s first fight since he knocked out Caleb Truax in the first round April 29 in Atlantic City.
Hungary’s Nemesapati (24-5, 17 KOs) was smaller, slower and clearly in over his head against a Flint, Michigan, native who has lost only to WBC world super middleweight champ Badou Jack (20-1-2, 12 KOs). The 21-year-old fighter from Budapest lost by technical knockout for the third time in a pro career that began in May 2012, when Nemesapati was just 16.
Dirrell’s win was televised by Spike from Hialeah Park Racing & Casino, just outside of Miami.
Dirrell began battering Nemesapati toward the end of the second round, when he connected with a right uppercut that knocked Nemesapati back toward the ropes. Nemesapati withstood Dirrell’s onslaught and made it to the end of the second round, yet encountered more difficulty during the third round, when Dirrell drilled him with another right uppercut and several effective body blows.
An utterly undeterred Dirrell continued to walk right through Nemesapati’s punches in the fourth round. He essentially took target practice on Nemesapati’s head and body throughout that three-minute period and picked up right where he left off in a completely uncompetitive fifth round.
The sixth round amounted to more of the same. Nemesapati’s corner men mercifully informed referee James Warring to stop the complete mismatch after the sixth round, with Nemesapati seated in his corner.
The Dirrell-Nemesapati fight was part of a telecast that featured a main event between WBA world super welterweight champ Erislandy Lara and former champ Yuri Foreman.
