Former unified champion Andy Ruiz was impressed with Tyson Fury's performance on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Fury captured the WBC heavyweight title when he scored two knockdowns, and eventually stopped Deontay Wilder in the seventh round.
There is now an immediate rematch clause, which Wilder plans to exercise to force a trilogy fight in the summer. The first time around, in December of 2018, Fury and Wilder fought to a controversial twelve round split draw.
Ruiz believes Fury is the top fighter in the heavyweight division at the moment.
"I think Tyson Fury did an awesome job. He did everything with the ability that he has and his reach. He's the man right now," said Ruiz to Fox Sports.
While watching the fight, Ruiz got flashbacks of his June 2019 stoppage win over Anthony Joshua.
In that bout, Joshua was rocked by a hook to the side of the head - in the third round. Joshua never fully recovered and he was eventually stopped in the seventh.
Wilder was also rocked in the third round by a punch to the side of the head. And he also appeared to never fully recover, and he was also was stopped in the seventh.
Ruiz wants to get a crack at Fury, but he's willing to fight Wilder as well.
"I actually had flashbacks from my fight on June 1st. It was kind of similar like that, and it was in the same round as well [when Wilder got hurt]. It was pretty crazy, but good for Tyson Fury," Ruiz said.
"I think Tyson Fury did what he had to do, he stuck to the game plan and I'm pretty sure that he can do it again and I can do it too.... if they pick me, I'm here and I'm ready. After that shot to the ear, [Wilder] didn't recover and he was wobbly. Even the punches he tried to throw, they didn't have a lot of power."
Ruiz has been out of the ring since suffering a decision loss to Joshua in their rematch last December.
