According to the head of Main Events, Kathy Duva, discussions are still ongoing for a light heavyweight bout between Andre Ward (28-0, 15KOs) and Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12KOs), that would take place on March 26th in Oakland, California on HBO.
Duva - who promotes Barrera - is in serious negotiations with Roc Nation Sports, who handle Ward.
"I'm still waiting to hear back from Roc Nation," Duva told BoxingScene.com on Tuesday evening. "We have agreed on the major terms and we've been in touch with them and they tell me they're working things out on their end and they'll be in touch with me soon."
Over the weekend Barrera engaged in a rather one-sided and entertaining Twitter exchange with Ward. Duva swears, "That's all his own work. I'm enjoying it as much as everybody else. It's hilarious."
Ward was last in action in June of 2015, when he stopped Paul Smith in nine rounds. Barrera won an IBF eliminator last month with a TKO win over Karo Murat. The victory made Barrera the mandatory challenger to IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight king Sergey Kovalev.
Ward has a deal in place to fight Kovalev in the fall - provided both fighters win their upcoming bouts. Kovalev has a rematch set against Jean Pascal on January 30th in Montreal, Canada. Duva also promotes Kovalev.
