Undefeated Philippine featherweight Cesar Amonsot has suffered his first defeat in eight fights losing by a fifth round TKO to Indonesia’s Simson Butar Butar at the RCTO Studio in Jakarta.
Well-known Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer told Manila Standard that “it was one of those things that sometimes happen.” He said Amonsot, the hard hitting southpaw from Bohol had Butar Butar in trouble in the third round and on the verge of a knockout but that the Indonesian rallied and caught Amonsot with a hard right to the head in the fifth round.
Aldeguer said Amonsot was “groggy and the referee promptly stepped in and stopped the fight” which appeared unusual since Butar Butar was in worse shape in the third round but the fight was not stopped.
Amonsot was coming off a sixth round TKO victory over Leed Shabu of Indonesia last October 24. Amonsot now has a record of 7-1 with 6 knockouts. Butar Butar who was also coming off a sixth round TKO victory over Vinvin Rufino last November 23 improved his record to 5-2 with 5 knockouts.
