Over the last few months, WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan has been involved in a domestic back and forth war of words with WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch. There appears to be a lot of tension between the two. Froch has taken some direct shots at Khan over his performances and stature. Khan believes the feud has to do with jealousy on the part of Froch.
"I choose to ignore that guy. You know when you get a guy and he talks trash all the time. And he talks trash about me even though we are in different weight categories. I think it's more about jealousy. And it's about Amir Khan being a famous fighter and being a big name and him not being anyone," Khan told BoxingScene.com's Ernest Gabion.
"I've been looked at probably more than he's been looked at. That's the way boxing is, you always have haters and lovers. It's a shock to me but I wish him all the best in life. Even in Nottingham where he lives, more people come to me and come to see me fight - even though he lives there and he knows that himself."
Khan defends the title on December 5 against mandatory Dmitriy Salita. He expects a tough contest with Salita but he tells BoxingScene that Salita's style is made for him.
"Training camp is going really well. I feel very sharp. It's the next step up for me to defend my title. I think Salita's style is good for me. He's a tough, young fighter. He has that hunger in him. I think his style is totally made for mine. I can't go in there too overconfident. He can't afford to make a mistake and I can't afford to make a mistake with him. In boxing one punch can change a punch," Khan said.
