WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan is ready to prove the doubters wrong. He makes his American debut this coming Saturday against Paulie Malignaggi at New York's Madison Square Garden. Speaking with British boxing scribe Steve Bunce, Khan said the fight with Malignaggi is not as easy as other people claim.

"This is not an easy fight like some people claim and after this I will silence people by fighting one of the top Americans," Khan said. "I've heard a lot of people accusing me of taking the easy route and that is crazy - I fight the men that my promoters put in front of me."

After the Malignaggi fight is in the books, Khan plans to make a unification request. He will ask Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya to get him a fight with the other champions "right now." The WBO champion is Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander holds the WBC/IBF titles. Both fighters have HBO dates without opponents. Bradley returns on July 17 and Alexander is back in August.

"There are other champions at the moment and I want to start lining them up right now. Let me get rid of Malignaggi and look good doing it -then I will tell Oscar to get me one of the other champions. This is a great division at the moment and I want to be known as a great champion. All fighters want to be recognized as real champions when they win the title and that is why I want the big names after this fight," Khan said.
