WBA heavyweight champion David Haye continues to tell British reporters that he plans to retire by next October. Now Amir Khan, the WBA champion at junior welterweight, is stating that he plans to retire by age 28. That gives the 23-year-old Khan about five years to achieve his remaining goals in the sport.
"By the time I'm 28 that's the time for me to hang my gloves up and stay with my family. I'm going to walk out of this sport the way I walked in and that's what I want to tell other people who box. You don't want to walk out of the sport brain dead," Khan told BBC Radio's 'Manchester's In the Spotlight.'
Khan won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics and in 2009 he captured the WBA title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Andriy Kotelnik. He is scheduled to make the third defense of his title against Marcos Maidana on December 11 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
