Former world champion Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) is sizing up his options for 2017.
There are ongoing talks to potentially face his domestic rival, IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook. There is also another name on Khan's wish list, a name that has the Bolton boxer gunning for revenge.
Since 2012, Khan has been trying to secure a rematch with current WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs). In July of that year, Khan was knocked out by Garcia in four rounds. Khan was the better favorite and the outcome was unexpected.
Last month, Khan came face to face with Garcia at the WBC's annual convention in Florida. The two boxers discussed the possibility of fighting each other in the near future. Garcia assured Khan that a rematch will happen down the line.
Both of them are advised by Al Haymon and fight under the Premier Boxing Champions banner. Khan is also the mandatory challenger to Garcia's WBC title. Garcia is scheduled to face WBA champion Keith Thurman in a unification on March 4th. The World Boxing Council wants the winner of that contest to make a mandatory defense against Khan.
"That's something I have always wanted. I met Danny in Miami and we had a chat. He said to me 'Look, it's going to happen again some day. Don't know when'. "I'm sure Al Haymon will get that fight one day for me. It's something I want as I have unfinished business with him," Khan said to Sky Sports.
"The only reason I can't get that fight just yet is because Danny is fighting Keith Thurman, and that is a unification fight so it overrides any mandatory. That's another fight out there for me. There are some big names like him and [Lamont] Peterson."
Khan has been out of the ring since getting knocked out in his catch-weight bout with Canelo Alvarez last May. After having surgery on his right hand, Khan believes his career might have another three years in the tank.
"I feel as good as when I was 25. I am keeping my body clean, I'm training very hard. I treat my body very well and I might have another three years left in me. Boxing has been great for me and I just want to give the fans the fights they want," Khan said.
