British star Amir Khan is on the verge of landing a lucrative payday against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be carried by Showtime Pay-Per-View.
Earlier this week, Mayweather created an official poll for the boxing public to select his next opponent. There were two choices, Khan and WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana.
At first, Maidana had a commanding lead and appeared to be the favorite to win. But slowly, day by day, Khan began to close the gap and eventually took over the leading position.
As of Saturday afternoon, Khan had 54% of the vote and an edge of over 2,600 votes. Hours passed throughout the day, and Khan's lead continued to grow by the thousands. The finish line of the voting is within reach, and Khan is expected to be announced as Mayweather's next opponent.
