WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri is not concerned with the longtime PED rumors with respect to Manny Pacquiao, the WBO's welterweight champion.
The rumors began circulating several years ago, around the time of the first round of negotiations for a super-fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Because Pacquiao refused to take part in random drug testing, and there were several different excuses provided by his team, Mayweather and members of his camp accused the boxer of using performance enhancing drugs.
The rumors have continued over the years. Pacquiao's image is starting to change, with the Filipino star undergoing a more complex and efficient testing process for his last two fights, with Brandon Rios and Timothy Bradley.
For the upcoming fight on November 22nd in Macau, Algieri says there will be random drug testing and because of that he doesn't have any concerns.
"Whether he is or he isn't [using PEDs], the guy I'm fighting is going to be tested. That's all that I have to say. I think every fighter should be tested. There is no reason not to. When I was approached about testing before this Provodnikov fight - I said 'of course.' I have nothing to hide. I have no fear about anything that I'm putting in my body. I don't understand why any fighter wouldn't have the same [position on taking a test], unless they got something to hide," Algieri said to BoxingScene.com.
