He called it a dangerous fight. He was right. Former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev (36-7, 27 KOs) was likely retired on Friday night at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California. In what many thought would be an easy tune-up, Maskaev was destroyed in a single round by unknown Nagy Aguilera (15-2, 10 KOs). Maskaev throughout the build-up was tell people it was a dangerous fight.
After being stunned, Maskaev was dropped with a hard combination. He never recovered and was quickly put down again before the fight was waved off. Maskaev was in line to fight Ray Austin in a final WBC eliminator for a shot at champion Vitali Klitschko. Instead, he saw those hopes and any chance of a Klitschko meeting, or any future title shot, go up in smoke.
