WBC light heavyweight kingpin Adonis "Superman" Stevenson shocked the boxing world when he announced that he had signed a contract with powerful boxing adviser Al Haymon. BoxingScene.com caught up with the knockout artist who is in currently in Las Vegas taking a vacation from the cold Montreal winter.
The 36-year-old Stevenson said that he has known Haymon's right hand man Sam (Watson) for a long time and that after a couple of weeks of negotiating they were able to reach an agreement.
"It has been a couple weeks that we have been talking together with Al. I have known Sam for a while. We have always been friendly. I feel that at this point in my career I need a top manager to help me and I think Al is the best guy for me to get me the best opportunities and take me to another level," Stevenson explained while saying that he feels Haymon's broad reach will be able to land him other opportunities outside of the boxing ring.
"He brings a lot to the table. He brings the wisdom and a lot of opportunities outside of boxing like TV shows, movies. There are a lot of things he can bring. He is not just in boxing. He can make someone a superstar and you can see that (from what he has done with his other clients)," Stevenson continued.
Stevenson said that he still plans on fighting three times in 2014 and that he will be returning to the ring soon.
"That is still the plan. We want to stay as active as possible. I want to tell my fans that I will be back soon and that it will be a good show. When I am in the ring I put on a good show for my fans. I want to tell them I love them and I want to thank them for all of their support. They can follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook at AdonisSuperman and can check out my website www.adonissuperman.com," Stevenson told BoxingScene.com.
