Artem Dalakian Knocks Out Thaiyen in Eight, Retains WBA Belt

Parkovy Convention Centre in Kiev, Ukraine - World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight world champion Artem Dalakian (17-0, 12 KOs) knocked out Sirichai Thaiyen (50-4, 35 KOs) of Thailand in the eight round.

Dalakian's power was on full display, as he had Thaiyen down in rounds five, six and eight - and the referee had seen enough and finally waved off the contest.

This was the first defense for Dalakian after securing his biggest career win.

Back in February, as part of the HBO televised Superfly 2 event in Los Angeles, Dalakian won a lopsided twelve round unanimous decision over veteran and former world champion Brian Viloria to capture the vacant WBA world title.

As far as Thaiyen, this was his first defeat since 2014 - when he was stopped in five rounds by then WBA flyweight world champion Juan Carlos Reveco.

After that defeat, he built up a 16 fight win streak - and 15 of those wins were by knockout. His two remaining defeats came very early in his career. Also on the card, Ihor Magurin (10-0) won a ten round unanimous decision over Daniel Limone (16-7) in a super featherweight contest.

IN OTHER NEWS: Dubai based Michelle Kuehn, of the only boxing gym in Dubai, will be signing a professional deal with Dave Coldwell. Coldwell who spent time in Dubai recently, prior to Jamie McDonnell's world title defence, had been impressed with the American and her aspirations to challenge for a female world title.

Michelle, who was a gifted white collar boxer, will move to South Yorkshire to team up with Coldwell full time with a debut set in July. Kuehn would like to thank David Coldwell specifically for identifying her talent and says that exposure on social media has helped raise her performances and training to the next level.

Michelle commented on her link up with Coldwell, “I am so happy to link up with David. I am a great fighter I know this and David is a great trainer so I believe that this will be a great partnership that will end in me being world champion in many weight classes.”

“I am going to take the Lightweight division by storm and I guarantee I will be taking Katie Taylor’s titles inside the next year. Let’s go baby!”

Artem Dalakian has to push for unification hes already 30 in his prime. Tanaka, Rosales are just starting out in their early twenties. Great performance by Artem, respect to Thaiyen ; hes still young and has more to offer.
