Aram Avagyan: record, next fight and profile →

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – At the Heartland Events Center, Friday's ShoBox televised opener featured a highly competitive fight in a battle of unbeatens with Martino Jules (11-0-2, 2 KOs) scoring a unanimous win over ShoBox veteran Aram Avagyan (10-1-2, 4 KOs) in an eight-round featherweight affair.

It initially seemed Friday night that Martino Jules’ lack of power would hurt his cause against Aram Avagyan. Jules eventually neutralized Avagyan’s pressure, though, dropped Avagyan in the final minute of their eight-round junior lightweight bout and won a unanimous decision at Heartland Events Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. The 24-year-old Jules (11-0, 2 KOs), a southpaw from Allentown, Pennsylvania, won comfortably on the scorecards of judges Mike Contreras (78-73), Josef Mason (77-74) and John Klemiato (79-72) in the opener of a “ShoBox: The New Generation” tripleheader.

A bitterly disappointed Aram Avagyan says he’s willing to do a rematch of his exciting showdown with Jose “Magnifico” Nunez, but this time things have to be a bit different. The two undefeated super featherweights, Avagyan (10-0-2, 4 KOs) and Nunez (11-0-2, 4 KOs), fought to a fan-friendly eight-round majority draw this week, in the co-main event of Wednesday night’s edition of ShoBox: The New Generation from Mohegan Sun Arena.

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut – Jose Nunez got off to a strong start Wednesday night, but he didn’t do enough to beat Aram Avagyan. The Panamanian prospect defeated Armenia’s Avagyan on one scorecard, but their eight-round, super featherweight fight resulted in an eight-round majority draw at Mohegan Sun Arena. Judge Peter Hary scored Nunez a 77-75 winner, yet judges Tom Carusone and John McKaie scored the action even (76-76).

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut – Pedro Marquez felt fine Tuesday afternoon, when he made weight for his fight against Martino Jules. BoxingScene.com has learned Marquez fell ill Wednesday morning, however, went to a local hospital and was advised to withdraw from their eight-round featherweight fight. The 23-year-old Jules (10-0, 2 KOs), a southpaw from Allentown, Pennsylvania, and the 26-year-old Marquez (12-1, 8 KOs) – a San Juan, Puerto Rico, native who has won 11 straight fights – were supposed to open a “ShoBox: The New Generation” tripleheader Wednesday night from Mohegan Sun Arena. The show will proceed as a doubleheader.

Solano, Williams Weights Photos Gallery - Undefeated super lightweight prospects Yeis Solano and Mykquan Williams both made weight a day before their main event showdown set for Wednesday, January 20, live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/PT) from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. as ShoBox kicks off its 20th anniversary year showcasing boxing’s rising stars matched tough.

The first ShoBox card of the new year will move forward as a tripleheader. A previously announced Jan. 20 quadrupleheader is now down to three fights, as original headliner Patrick Cora is left without an opponent for the Showtime-televised card. Now serving in the main event is a battle of unbeaten junior welterweights between Mykquan Williams and Yeis Gabriel Solano, which has been upgraded from eight to ten rounds atop the show from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
