Josh Padley pipped Aquib Fiaz to defend his European junior lightweight at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena

Skye Nicolson made light work of Carla Camila Campos Gonzales, now 9-4 (8 KOs), in her debut in the junior featherweight division at Manchester’s AO Arena.

Kevin Maree has quietly built one of the most successful stables in British boxing and the busy manager seems to have an involvement in almost every major show.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said the super featherweight fight between 12-1 (1 KO) Aqib Fiaz and 19-11-2 (1 KO) Kane Baker was called off after the Matchroom boss had been made aware of irregular betting activity.

Reece Bellotti’s pressure and power were eventually too much for Aqib Fiaz to handle in what was billed as the toughest fight of the British junior lightweight prospect’s career Saturday night.

Aqib Fiaz survived a major scare to avoid a disastrous outcome in front of his local fans. The unbeaten junior lightweight prospect overcame a sixth-round knockdown to outpoint Romania’s Costin Ion over eight rounds. Referee scored the contest 76-75 for Fiaz in their DAZN-aired preliminary bout Saturday evening from AO Arena in Manchester, England.

Leigh Wood is now the only main event fighter eligible to fight for his old title. Rumors of weight struggles for Mauricio Lara were confirmed prior to the start of Friday’s official pre-fight weigh-in. A weight check during fight week prompted the British Boxing Board of Control to deem it unsafe for Lara to attempt to make the 126-pound featherweight limit on Friday. The BBBofC set a minimum limit of 128 ½ pounds for which Lara could step on the scale. The development will likely result in his being stripped of the WBA featherweight title.

Aaron Bowen will be back in the ring next month. The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, who competed in Birmingham last year, made his professional debut earlier this year.

Diego Pacheco is set for his first headlining act. It comes more than 5,000 air miles from home, as the 21-year-old South Central Los Angeles native will face Jack Cullen in a scheduled 10-round super middleweight bout. Both boxers made weight for their makeshift main event this Saturday on DAZN from M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England. Pacheco packed 166.4 pounds into his lean 6’4” frame, while Little Lever’s Cullen was 167 ½ pounds.

An injury has forced Callum Smith out of his Light-Heavyweight clash with Pawel Stepien at the M&S Bank Arena Liverpool on Saturday March 11.
