The confusing promotional situation involving former lightweight titleholder Antonio DeMarco might be even more complicated. Earlier this month, a report came out that DeMarco had signed with Zanfer Promotions. A day later, DeMarco clarified that he was not with Zanfer, but was just fighting on a Zanfer card “under my own company, DeMarco Promotions.” But the promoter he had supposedly split from, Gary Shaw, believes DeMarco is still contractually obligated to him.

Tijuana, Mexico, Foro Tecate - In his first fight since suffering the knockout loss to Adrien Broner, Mexico's rugged warrior Antonio "Tony" DeMarco (29-3-0, 26 KOs) entered the junior welterweight ranks with a fifth round knockout of Colombian Fidel Monterrosa (31-8-0, 25 KO's), who went down at 1:21 of the round. Monterrosa had his moments in the contest. There was a bad head clash in the third, which left damage on both but cut DeMarco on his forehead above his left eye. DeMarco had his opponent going at the end of the fourth, and picked back up in the fifth with a shot to the liver that sent Monterrosa down. He barely made it up at nine and the referee waved things off.

Tijuana, Mexico, Foro Tecate - In his first fight since suffering the knockout loss to Adrien Broner, Mexico's rugged warrior Antonio "Tony" DeMarco (29-3-0, 26 KOs) entered the junior welterweight ranks with a fifth round knockout of Colombian Fidel Monterrosa (31-8-0, 25 KO's), who went down at 1:21 of the round. In the co-feature, Daniel "Bad Boy" Rosas punished Robert Castaneda. After starting fast, Rosas (16-0-1, 11 KOs) crushed Castaneda (20-4-0, 15 KO's) with a single shot in the opening seconds of the second to score the stoppage victory.

Antonio DeMarco (28-3-1, 21KOs), the former lightweight world champion of World Boxing Council (WBC), is preparing to return after eight months of inactivity. The boxer has parted ways with promoter Gary Shaw, he has new goals and leaves the loss to Adrien Broner behind him. He’s now on the hunt for a title shot again and is working with a new trainer Ismael Salas in Las Vegas. It was a fight in where Linares was outclassing his opponent but DeMarco fought his way back into the fight and stopped Linares late in an upset classic. Across two Saturday’s, fans were treated to three eye-catching main events, two of them Fight of the Year contender, and on an undercard arguably the second best fight of 2012. Not a bad Saturday (or two) if we can get it. We did. So did some of the fighters. Welterweight Andre Berto probably still has ice packs on his eyes. Lightweight Antonio DeMarco likely still hears the whistling hands of Adrien Broner bouncing off his head. Flyweight Tyson Marquez might be flinching at every corner, sure of his footing but unsure of when the next perfect counter is coming.
