Anthony Fowler has been handed an opponent ahead of his return.

The 28-year-old is returning to super-welterweight next month on a world title undercard.

Fowler, who stepped up to middleweight back in August to outpoint Brian Rose to win the vacant WBO Inter-Continental title, suffered his first defeat earlier this year when he was dropped en route to losing a points decision against his fellow Commonwealth Games gold medallist Scott Fitzgerald at the M&S Bank Arena.

The aforementioned Arena, in Fowler’s home city, is the setting for his next outing on November 23 at the M&S Bank Arena in his home city of Liverpool when he features as part of the supporting cast to Callum Smith’s WBA Super, Ring Magazine and WBC Diamond world super-middleweight title defence against mandatory challenger and fellow Brit John Ryder.

And it has been revealed that ‘The Machine’ –– who was ringside at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle last weekend to watch Fitzgerald outpoint Ted Cheeseman to win the British super-welterweight crown –– will face the reigning English champion in Harry Scarff.

Scarff won the belt with a points victory over Jack Flatley at the Bolton Whites Hotel last month, coming out on top with tallies of 97-94 twice and 96-94.

It is unclear whether the belt will be at stake on the night but that will be revealed in due course.

Fowler’s clash with Scarff is just one of a number of stellar supporting acts to Smith’s homecoming against Ryder.

Craig Glover will meet Chris Billam-Smith in an intriguing cruiserweight battle for a title to be confirmed and Tom Farrell will also box in a tasty clash up at super-lightweight against former lightweight contender Sean Dodd, while Belfast lightweight James Tennyson defends his WBA International title against Craig Evans.

Thomas Whittaker-Hart will be joined by undefeated duo Marcos Molloy and Tom Aitchison, both of whom made successful starts to their professional careers earlier this month.
