Andre Berto appreciates Jan Zaveck’s willingness to leave his comfort zone.

I caught up with Andre Berto and his trainer Tony Morgan at the tail end of their training camp in San Mateo, California for their September 3 IBF welterweight title clash with Jan Zaveck in Biloxi, Mississippi.

While Andre Berto was as candid as could be during a conference call on Thursday, taking aim at the media for questioning his staying power, his opponent on Sept. 3 in Biloxi, IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck took the high road, over and over and over again, skillfully dodging questions and refusing to say anything incendiary during the call, which, of course, is what us scribes live for.

In the aftermath of his loss to Victor Ortiz back in April, Andre Berto wasn’t shy about expressing his thoughts. “Sugar” Shane Mosley hasn’t fought since a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision loss to Manny Pacquiao in May. Prior to that bout, he fought to a draw with Sergio Mora and was dominated by Floyd Mayweather.

Recently at the Undisputed Gym in the Bay Area, I caught up with former WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-1-0, 21 KOs) who is currently training hard for his IBF title fight on September 3 against the Slovenian champion Jan Zaveck (31-1-0, 18 KOs) in Biloxi, Mississippi to talk about his return to the ring after suffering the first loss of his career against Victor Ortiz last April.

Ryan Maquiñana heads back to Brian Schwartz's Undisputed Gym in San Carlos, Calif., where Andre Berto is training for his clash against Jan Zaveck for the IBF world welterweight title. Berto discusses the fight, his newfound discovery of having anemia and more.

Ryan Maquiñana sits down with members of Andre Berto's team, trainer Tony Morgan and conditioner/nutritionist Victor Conte, to discuss their boxer's training camp and the fight with IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck.

Perennial contender Randall Bailey will be in action on September 3 at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Miss., against an opponent to be named, but his eyes will be on the main event.
