WBO 140-pound champion Chris Algieri is thinking big. The fight of his career is lined up for November 22nd, when he moves up in weight to challenge WBO 147-pound champion Manny Pacquiao in Macua, China. If Algieri is successful, he sees WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. as a possible next option.
"I mean of course, the landscape of the boxing world will change, if and when I beat Manny, so that’s an option [to fight Mayweather]. But as always, we’ll take it step by step and see what the best moves are gonna be and decide what the next move will be. For right now, I am 100% focused on November 22nd," Algieri told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Algieri has been involved in 20 professional fights but only has eight knockouts to his name. He doesn't rule out the possibility of knocking Pacquiao out.
"I think in terms of boxing, you know it’s purely unexpected and anything can happen, and you got two guys and if you can hit someone and hurt them and if you can hurt them you can stop them," Algieri said.
"I don’t go into this fight thinking that I have to win a decision or I have to outbox him or anything like that. If the knockout is there, the knockout is there. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, I’m looking to dominate either way."
