CINCINNATI - Adrien Broner and Adrian Granados battled in a close, back-and-forth main event Saturday on SHOWTIME, with the four-division world champion Broner eking out a split decision victory from Cintas Center at Xavier University in his hometown of Cincinnati.
By Keith Idec - As promised, Adrian Granados gave Adrien Broner everything he could handle Saturday night. Broner dealt well enough, however, with the gritty Granados’ pressure and toughness to win a split decision in their 10-round welterweight fight in Broner’s hometown of Cincinnati. Broner (33-2, 24 KOs) won on t...
Broner vs. Granados Scorecard Live BoxingScene - Showtime Sports will live-stream the first ever boxing event on Twitter this Saturday, offering fans the opportunity to watch and join the conversation during the "Showtime Championship Boxing" tripleheader headlined by popular four-division world champion Adrien Broner versus upset-minded Adrian Granados.
The economical Adrien Broner (43.2 thrown per round) landed 38.2% of his total punches- #3 on the CompuBox Categorical Leaders list. He landed 45.9% of his power punches- 8% higher than the wgt. class avg. Granados is busy (73.9 thrown per round) and landed 24.9 punches per round, but paid a price, as opponents landed 41.5% of their power shots (15.2 per round- wgt. class avg.: 12.7)
Adrien Broner is doing a pretty good job of trying to convince everybody that the penny has finally dropped and he is ready to dedicate himself to his boxing career. He might even have looked up the word humble in the dictionary if recent interviews are anything to go by.
One thing is guaranteed this Saturday on Showtime. The winner of the main event (9 PM EST/6 PM PST) will be able look across the ring and taunt the loser by saying “Yo (insert winner’s first name spelling), I did it!” In a vacuum this fight would look like one with an obvious winner. Broner has been better against a wider range of foes. But, because it’s Broner, there is some drama considering the style match. Granados is a strong willed, physical professional who needs this win badly. His upset of undefeated Amir Imam in 2015 suggested he might be the sort of guy who is still leaning on the job.
Adrien Broner and Adrian Granados have remained respectful toward one another throughout the promotion of their fight. Until Friday. After Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) and Granados (18-4-2, 12 KOs) weighed in, Broner predicted he will “beat his ass” in their 10-round welterweight fight Saturday night in Cincinnati.
Tonight in Cincinnati, Adrian Granados (18-4-2, 12 KOs) finally gets the chance to unleash over a year’s worth of frustration when he faces hometown favourite Adrian Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) in a bout that could lead to a world title fight for the victor.
By Keith Idec - There are various reasons for boxing fans to root for Adrian Granados to upset Adrien Broner on Saturday night. Granados seems like a genuinely good dude, a career-long grinder who’s appreciative of the opportunity Broner has afforded him. And most everyone loves an underdog, the role Granad...
Broner vs. Granados Weigh-In Photos - The scale was the problem Friday afternoon in Cincinnati, not the fighters. After three of the first four fighters scheduled to participate in televised bouts Saturday night in Cincinnati were overweight, the Ohio State Athletic Commission acknowledged that there was an undisclosed issue with the scale it used. Those three fighters – Adrian Granados, Lamont Peterson and David Avanesyan – were allowed to weigh in again, once the scale was replaced, without having to wait the usual hour to return.
