Adamek vs. Cunningham II is Set for December 22nd

•Oct 16, 2012

Steve Cunningham figured he’d have to wait a little longer for his rematch with Tomasz Adamek after Adamek came back to stop Travis Walker on Sept. 8 in Newark, N.J. Turns out the wait is over for the former cruiserweight champion from Philadelphia. Cunningham (25-4, 12 KOs) and Adamek (47-1, 29 KOs) signed contracts Tuesday to fight again Dec. 22 in Bethlehem, Pa., in a 12-round heavyweight bout that’ll be televised live by NBC from the Sands Casino Resort’s Events Center. Negotiations began for Adamek-Cunningham II once Odlanier Solis failed to sign a contract for his fight against Adamek by a deadline last last week.

BoxingScene.com has been informed that heavyweight contender Odlanier Solis (18-1, 12 KOs) has decided to take a pass on facing Norway’s Leif Larsen (16-0, 13 KOs) in a 10-round fight on October 12 in Madrid - and instead the 2004 Olympic gold medal winner will head straight to a planned fight with former two-division world champion Tomasz Adamek (47-2, 29 KOs) on December 22.

NEWARK, N.J. — Odlanier Solis will be boxing’s busiest heavyweight the rest of 2012 as the Cuban contender attempts to fight his way back to another title shot. If Solis (18-1, 12 KOs) defeats Norway’s Leif Larsen (16-0, 13 KOs) in a 10-round fight Oct. 12 in Madrid, he’ll take a brief break before beginning training for a Dec. 22 fight against Tomasz Adamek. The Solis-Larsen bout won’t be broadcast in the United States, but the Solis-Adamek match will be televised by NBC if Solis gets past Larsen.
