Glendale, California’s Adam Lopez is looking to get straight back into world title contention, with the 23 year old showed that he is at world level last time out, as he gave long standing world champion Oscar Valdez arguably his toughest test to date.
Losing is not always a bad thing in boxing, and this is definitely the case with Lopez. The Buddy McGirt trainer featherweight produced a top quality performance against WBO King Valdez, with many onlookers labeling Lopez as a future world champion post fight.
Blunose opened up about the clash with Valdez and the aftermath.
Lopez said, “It was a great fight and a fight that I hope all the boxing fans enjoyed watching. I enjoyed being a part of it and I’m very grateful to my team and promoter Top Rank for getting me the opportunity to show I’m at world level and I believe I did that.
“Oscar Valdez is truly an elite fighter and I proved that I can mix it at that level. I was disappointed not to get the victory but I know that next time I fight for the world title I will emerge victoriously. There is no doubt in my mind, I will be a world featherweight champion in years to come”
Lopez is trained by hall of fame Buddy McGirt and as the Glendale native eyes a ring return, Blunose discussed his relationship and improvements under McGirt.
He said, “Working with Buddy everyday is fantastic. He has really made me into a real professional fighter. I plant my feet now and throw my shots correctly like you should do as a professional. I know how to go the long rounds and pace myself correctly. These are just a couple of things Buddy has taught me. It’s an honor to work with him everyday.
“We’re hoping to be back in the ring soon and hopefully the team can announce a date in the very near future. I’m improving all the time with Buddy and it is really an education in professional boxing working with him. I don’t want any easy fights and I’m hoping that I’ll be in another exciting fight that all fight fans enjoy watching.
“I want to be back in the mix for world titles this year. I would love a clash with Josh Warrington or Shakur Stevenson. They would be tough fights but I believe I would bring things to the table that they’ve never seen before.”
