Charles Martin Wants Kownacki Rematch or Luis Ortiz Fight

Adam Kownacki will fight at some point this summer in what the Polish contender hopes will be his final bout before earning a shot at WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder late this year. Kownacki hasn’t specified who he’d like to box next, but Charles Martin hopes Kownacki will at least consider a rematch. Martin, a former IBF champion, and Kownacki went at it for 10 competitive, compelling rounds September 8 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Kownacki’s hometown.

Keith Thurman and Josesito Lopez didn’t just deliver a more entertaining, competitive welterweight title fight Saturday night than many expected. The gritty veterans attracted more viewers for FOX, too. Nielsen Media Research figures released Tuesday indicated the “PBC on FOX” tripleheader lured a peak audience of 2,765,000 during the 12th round of the compelling main event between Thurman and Lopez at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The 12-round Thurman-Lopez fight, in which Thurman overcame serious trouble during the seventh round to win a majority decision, drew an average of 2,480,000 viewers.

Kownacki's Manager 'Convinced He Can Beat Deontay Wilder'

NEW YORK – Adam Kownacki’s manager was so impressed by how his boxer blew out Gerald Washington, Keith Connolly is convinced Kownacki can beat the first fighter that stopped Washington. If all goes according to the plan designed by Connolly and Kownacki, the popular Polish heavyweight contender will get his chance to prove he can knock out Deontay Wilder by the end of this year. Kownacki, 29, figures to fight again during the summer, which would place him and Wilder on a comparable schedule.

Kownacki was pushing forward from the start, throwing and landing big punches. Washington was taking some heavy punches, especially in the final minute where he was stunned more than once.
