Abel Sanchez: record, next fight and profile →
Abel Sanchez, the trainer for former middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, does not have a high opinion of HBO broadcast analyst Max Kellerman. Two weeks go, Canelo Alvarez won a twelve round majority decision over Golovkin to capture the WBC, WBA middleweight titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Abel Sanchez, the trainer of middleweight Gennady Golovkin, rejects the claims that his boxer faded in the second half of the rematch with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. On September 15, in very competitive fight, Canelo won a twelve round majority decision over Golovkin to capture the WBC, WBA middleweight titles.
Abel Sanchez, trainer for middleweight contender Gennady Golovkin, feels strongly that his boxer did enough to win last Saturday's rematch with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Canelo and Golovkin fought toe to toe in a highly competitive contest for twelve rounds, with the Mexican star securing a twelve round majority decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Abel Sanchez, the trainer for Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs), was not surprised with cement chin of Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Last Saturday night, Canelo and Golovkin took part in a middleweight classic where they waged war for twelve rounds at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Abel Sanchez, trainer for Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs), says Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has vindicated himself for a pair of failed tests for performance enhancing drugs. Back in February, Canelo came up positive for the banned substance clenbuterol in two separate tests.
LAS VEGAS – Abel Sanchez wasn’t surprised Canelo Alvarez stood his ground and fought Gennady Golovkin in their rematch. Golovkin’s trainer figured continually chastising Alvarez for “running” in their first fight would help make him exchange more with Golovkin on Saturday night. Alvarez didn’t move nearly as much in their second bout as he did during their first fight, which resulted in a controversial draw a year ago at T-Mobile Arena.
LAS VEGAS – Abel Sanchez realizes there are plenty of things Gennady Golovkin could’ve done better to beat Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night. But after antagonizing Alvarez over the past year for “running” in their first fight and his subsequent clenbuterol scandal, Golovkin’s trainer thinks it’s time to praise Alvarez for his performance in their rematch. The Mexican superstar’s sustained aggression and granite chin helped him edge Golovkin by majority decision in their second 12-round fight at T-Mobile Arena.
LAS VEGAS – If Abel Sanchez could schedule Gennady Golovkin’s immediate future, he would want Golovkin’s next fight to come against Canelo Alvarez in May. A third bout between those middleweight rivals obviously is warranted after their extremely competitive rematch Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena. Whether that happens, of course, will be up to Alvarez and his handlers at Golden Boy Promotions now that he has beaten Golovkin by majority decision.
LAS VEGAS – Watching Gennady Golovkin lose to Canelo Alvarez hurt Abel Sanchez almost as much as it hurt Golovkin himself. Golovkin’s veteran trainer still handled his former middleweight champion’s first professional defeat with class and respect. After antagonizing Alvarez throughout the emotional promotion of their 12-round rematch, Sanchez applauded Alvarez’s effort in winning a majority decision over Golovkin in an action-packed battle Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.
Abel Sanchez Video Interview - In what will surely go down as one of the closest and most hard-fought middleweight title fights in boxing history, Lineal Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) went toe-to-toe in 12 rounds of non-stop action to defeat the reigning WBC, WBA and IBO Middleweight World Champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs) by majority decision in their middleweight championship rematch at T-Mobile Arena.
