IBF cruiserweight champion, Murat Gassiev, faces Krzysztof Wlodarczyk at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey in the quarterfinals of World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament. The hard-hitting Gassiev is trained by Abel Sanchez and is a stablemate of middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.
IBF Cruiserweight World Champion Murat "Iron" Gassiev shared his thoughts from training camp in Big Bear, Calif., as fight week nears for his World Boxing Super Series quarter-final showdown Saturday, October 21 against Krzysztof Wlodarczyk from Prudential Center in Newark, N.J and on AUDIENCE Network. Gassiev first arrived to train in the U.S. in 2014 and has worked with the renowned Abel Sanchez, eventually capturing his title with a victory over Denis Lebedev in December 2016.
Former world champion Orlando 'Siri' Salido arrived in Big Bear for a test run with Mexican trainer Abel Sanchez, as the veteran fighter prepares for his next fight set for November 25 in New York against an opponent yet to be defined, according to manager Sean Gibbons. It had been said that Salido was going to face Puerto Rican Jonathan Oquendo as part of the undercard of Sergey Kovalev and Vyacheslav Shabransky from New York's Madison Square Garden Theater, but Gibbons said he has yet to confirm that.
Abel Sanchez, best known as the trainer for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, disagrees with the Nevada State Athletic Commission sanctioning Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor as an official boxing match. Last month at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Mayweather snapped a two year retirement to fight McGregor, a UFC champion with zero experience as a pro boxer.
In the wake of his latest bout, many are wondering where the once relentless body attack of Gennady Golovkin has gone. While the majority of observers believed he did enough to beat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, he had to settle for a disputed draw. The two fought this past Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with Golovkin retaining his IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight belts after scores of 118-110 (Canelo), 115-113 (Golovkin) and 114-114 came down.
Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), is not letting Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) off the hook for last Saturday night. Canelo and Golovkin fought to a controversial twelve round split draw at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Gennady Golovkin's trainer Abel Sanchez has criticised judge Adalaide Byrd for her 118-110 scorecard in favour of Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night. Triple G and Canelo put on a fantastic show at the T-Mobile Arena, with both men having success in a captivating back-and-forth contest. When it went to the scorecards, Byrd's was read out first, followed by 115-113 for Golovkin from Dave Moretti, and Don Trella's 114-114 to result in a split decision draw.
LAS VEGAS – Abel Sanchez wasn’t surprised when Canelo Alvarez moved away from Gennady Golovkin more than he had in previous fights. Golovkin’s trainer thought before their battle that Alvarez would get tired and inevitably “run” from Golovkin in their 12-round middleweight title fight Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena. Alvarez, who fought to a draw with the unbeaten Golovkin, has taken some criticism, particularly from Mexican fans, for not exchanging more with one of boxing’s most punishing punchers.
LAS VEGAS – Abel Sanchez’s suspicions regarding judge Adalaide Byrd unfortunately were validated Saturday night. Sanchez was concerned when he learned Byrd was among the pool of judges the Nevada State Athletic Commission was considering assigning to the Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin fight. Golovkin’s trainer grew even more worried when the NSAC approved her assignment Monday.
