Former world super welterweight champion, Jaime Munguía, keeps training behind closed doors, and taking care of his diet, to stay in shape and be ready for when boxing events in Mexico and the United States can be rescheduled.

Munguia (35-0, 28 KO's) said that he trains daily behind closed doors in the gym of the North Zone, and only with him and two coaches, and although he has no date or opponents for his reappearance, he wants to be prepared for when the authorities are planning to resume their public activities.

"I train daily to correct mistakes, learn something every day. From the last fight we saw that after throwing a combination I was coming forward too much and lowering my hands, so we are working on that," said Munguía, who added that he will also run but in the afternoons, "because there are less people on the street."

Munguia said that he maintains the instructions of the authorities to take care of himself and his family in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, and suggested that fans protect themselves at home and not expose themselves to being contaminated.

Munguia made it clear, that if they offer him a fight against Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin, he would gladly accept it, although he warned that he is not in a hurry.

"I want to face the best. There has been a lot of talk about Golovkin or Canelo, but there has been nothing concrete, it does not depend on me but on the promoters. I am not in a hurry, everything will happen in due time, when it has to happen, and if it doesn't happen immediately it helps me to have more learning and development fights," said Munguía.

The former world champion said that originally he was scheduled to fight on May 2, in the co-feature of the evening for the super middleweight fight between Canelo and Billy Joe Saunders. Munguia was going to face Kanat Islam (27-0, 21 KO's), an undefeated Kazakh, who is based in California and a bronze medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"Now we just have to wait, to see when and against whom we will fight. For now we will continue training calmly, correcting mistakes, and getting ahead," Munguia said.

"I want to be a world champion at 160 pounds too, and with whoever I have to fight, I will, but that does not depend on me, but on my promoters. I do not have a preference of who to fight, and if I have to travel to Japan or some other country, we will."
