Strawweight contender Jose Argumedo stopped Alexis Diaz late Saturday night at the Centro de Convenciones in Tamazula, Jalisco, Mexico.

Argumedo has now won his last three fights.

The 30-year-old Argumedo, who resides in Tepic, Mexico, was the more effective fighter throughout most of the fight, breaking Diaz down in each round. Argumedo hurt Diaz in round five, prompting referee Rafael Ramos to stop the fight, saving Diaz from receiving more punishment.

Argumedo (23-4-1, 14 knockouts) won the IBF 105-pound world title by defeating Katsunari Takayama in December of 2015. He would successfully defend the title three times before losing it to Hiroto Kyoguchi on July 23.

Currently, Argumedo is ranked number two by the IBF and number nine by the IBF.

Diaz, who resides in Machiques, Venezuela, drops to 24-2, 16 knockouts. Diaz is ranked number six by the WBO.

Junior flyweight contender Jessica Nery Plata of Mexico City defeated Alondra Garcia by unanimous decision over 10 rounds.

Nery Plata (24-2, 3 KOs) has won her last three bouts since losing by unanimous decision to Kenia Enriquez in November of 2017.

Garcia, who lives and trains in nearby Guadalajara, drops to 20-4-1, 1 KO. The loss snapped a string of four consecutive victories.

The fight card was a co-promotion between Zanfer Promotions, Canelo Promotions, and Clase y Talento Boxeo.
