Former world champion Kell Brook is hoping to return to the ring on a date in December.

Brook wants to fight on December 15, as part of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky Fielding card at Madison Square Garden in New York City, or on December 22 as part of Dillian Whyte card at the O2 Arena in London.

Brook has been out of the ring since March, when he made his junior middleweight debut with a two round destruction of Sergey Rabchenko.

Brook told The Sheffield Star: "I told [promoter] Eddie [Hear] I want a fight before Christmas and he said he'd get one, no problem. We don't have a venue or an opponent yet, we will see what our options are."

"There is a show in New York, Canelo Alvarez v Rocky Fielding I could get on. Or there is Dillian Whyte, at the 02 Arena in London on December 22."

Brook wants to have at least one fight before moving forward with something big in 2019.

The fight of choice, for next year, is obviously a showdown with Bolton rival Amir Khan.

Khan, who continues to fight at the welterweight limit, has already made it clear that fight with Brook would have to take place at 147-pounds.

Brook has spoken with his nutritionist, and says there is no problem with making the contest happen at welterweight. Although he's struggled in the past to make the weight, he feels confident of getting back down there without any serious issues.

"I want to get a fight under my belt and then move on to something massive in the New Year," Brook said.

"I have spoken to my nutritionist Greg Marriott and I am absolutely sure I can get there [to 147]. He told me I'd have to stick to a plan and it is a hard plan but I can achieve that and stay healthy."
