The return of former four division world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez is being pushed back to September in the United States.

Because of ongoing issues in Nicaragua, Gonzalez has been unable to renew his visa to fight in the United States.

Gonzalez's manager, Carlos Blandon, reports that as soon as they resolve the visa issue, they will define everything to train outside of Nicaragua, as they have done for most of their recent fights.

The fight will be the first for Gonzalez after suffering the two painful defeats in 2017 at the hands of WBC super flyweight world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai or Thailand.

"Due to the instability that exists in Nicaragua we have not been able to get the visa for Roman. We had the appointment on April 30, it was canceled, then on May 11 and it was canceled, the last one was on May 21 and it was canceled. We are waiting for that work visa because we have plans to make a camp outside of Nicaragua and see if a fight will go forward win September," Blandon said to ESPN Deportes.

Roman was going to fight on May 5 in California, on the same night Gennady Golovkin knocked out Vanes Martirosyan in two rounds, but precisely the subject of the visa was an impediment and the other issue was receiving late notice on the opponent.

The return may land on September 8 or September 15.

"We have already been warned that there will be several cards in September in which they can include us and that is a blessing for Roman and the team, but we have the possibility of taking a fight over 10 rounds before that," Blandon said.

"We want to see how Román feels in the ring... in training he has done very well. We know that 2017 was a difficult year, but some adjustments were made to the team and he was fine with it and he looked very good."
