Comments Thread For: Roman Gonzalez Eyes United States Return in September

The return of former four division world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez is being pushed back to September in the United States. Because of ongoing issues in Nicaragua, Gonzalez has been unable to renew his visa to fight in the United States. Gonzalez's manager, Carlos Blandon, reports that as soon as they resolve the visa issue, they will define everything to train outside of Nicaragua, as they have done for most of their recent fights.

If 'Chocolatito' takes a fight before September it probably be a tune-up and that may lead to a better opponent by the end of 2018....but the interesting thing Blandon mentioned was '' a fight OVER TEN rounds before that'' which may be implying a higher profile fight

-- but then again Roman took on former miniweight champion Francisco Rodriguez Jr in a ten rounder in 2013 in Managua...so who knows but sounds promising.

Gonzales v Nietes or the winner of Ancajas v Sultan would be great.

It states in the article that there is civil unrest in the country -- basically the people have been trying to unseat the dictator of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega, further the US puts a hold when these things happen for a number of reasons, a.) the U.S already provided refuge to Nicaraguans in the 80's over their civil war ; I'm thinking under this Trump administration when they see a possibility of mass migration into America, they block passage -- and apparently it applies to athletes.
