Birmingham - For the vacant WBC International welterweight title, Sam Eggington (19-3, 11KOs) scored three knockdowns and rained down the hard punches to stop Frankie Gavin (23-3, 14KOs) in the eight round.

A close start, with a fight breaking out in the third after Eggington dropped Gavin with a hard counter. Gavin got up to his feet and started fighting off Eggington at close range. Gavin came out with more confidence in the fourth, with accurate punches finding the target. Eggington also had his moments. They were trading punches in the fifth, when Eggington trapped Gavin against the ropes.

At the start of the sixth, Eggington once again trapped Gavin against the ropes and he was really letting his hands go. He had Gavin in real trouble as he was battering him with punches. Gavin was firing back as the crowd was on their feet to applaud the action. Eggington continued to pour on the shots and Gavin was hurt bad by a hook to the body and fell into the ropes as the referee issued a second count.  Eggington jumped on him with punches from all angles and the referee nearly stopped the fight as a brave Gavin was out on his feet but swinging back with punches.

Gavin sticking and moving in the seventh. It wasn't long before Eggington started pushing forward, and throwing hooks to the head and body of Gavin. In the eight, Eggington had Gavin against the ropes once again and was battering him with shots to the head and body. Once again Gavin was in serious trouble and trying to fight back. Eggington started to unload to the body and head, and sent Gavin down as the referee jumped in to wave off the fight.

ON THE UNDERCARD

For the vacant WBC International middleweight title, Craig Cunningham (17-1, 4KOs) pulled off a shocking eight round stoppage of previously undefeated 2012 Olympic medal winner Anthony Ogogo (11-1, 7KOs).

After the fight, it was said that Ogogo was being bothered by vision issues with his left eye.

Ogogo started well, but the entire fight changed in the second round when Cunningham rocked and dropped Ogogo down in the second round. Ogogo was in a lot of trouble, but managed to recover by the third. They were trading punches for much of the contest and Cunningham was landing good shots, and Ogogo was missing more than he was landing.

In the eight round, there was time called with by the referee for what appeared to be Ogogo going back to his corner to fix some tape on his glove but the fight was waved off when trainer Tony Simms pulled him out.
