IBF, WBC lightweight world champion Mikey Garcia is looking to postpone a recent mandatory order from the International Boxing Federation, which directs him to make an immediate defense against Richard Commey.

Garcia is still very focused on moving up by two weight divisions to challenge IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence.

"I hope to get Spence, he's my first choice, Spence also has an interest in fighting me. If he did not have that interest or he would have told me no from the beginning, then I would make the defense with Commey, but Spence says that he's interested in fighting with me and I'm trying to secure that fight," Garcia told ESPN Deportes.

Garcia wants to become the next boxer to claim the status of being a five division world champion.

He's already captured titles at featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight and junior welterweight.

But many believe Spence might be too big and too strong for Garcia.

"I know it is a very big challenge, but it would also be an achievement. It would be the biggest victory of my career, so I hope to make this fight and get the victory," Garcia said.

"Something that motivates me in this fight is to win another championship in another division and against another undefeated opponent, it would be my third undefeated champion that I would face consecutively and in a different division. First I won the super lightweight championship against Sergey Lipinets, and then we unified with Easter in lightweight and now Spence. If everything can be done in less than 12 months I think it would be impressive," said Garcia.

The Mexican-American boxer has a record of 39-0 and 30 knockouts, with Spence having an undefeated tally of 24-0 and 19 knockouts.

With Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury colliding in a Showtime Pay-Per-View in December, it would be tough for a Spence-Garcia PPV to take place in 2018. The first quarter of 2019 is more likely.
