Chavez returned to the last month, after a year layoff, and was stopped in nine rounds by top light heavyweight Andrzej Fonfara at the StubHub in Carson, California. He was trained for that fight by Joe Goossen. Prior to Goossen, Chavez was trained by Hall of Fame coach Freddie Roach.
