The return of former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is likely heading to El Paso, Texas. The date of July 18th is still firm, against countryman Marco "Dorado" Reyes. According to Chavez Jr., the fight will be televised Showtime in the United States and by Televisa in Mexico.
He makes a quick return to action just three months after losing, by way of knockout in nine rounds, against light heavyweight Andrzej Fonfara at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. It was Chavez's debut with Showtime and manager Al Haymon.
Chavez Jr. (33-2, 24 KOs) told ESPN Deportes that his fight will take place at a maximum weight of 168 pounds.
The fight will also be debut of veteran trainer Robert Garcia in Chavez's corner. Reyes has a record of 20-1, and 13 won by knockout. Most of Reyes' career has been at middleweight, although his last outing in the ring was at 165.5 pounds.
Both sides are still waiting for Showtime to give the final approval.
