Glen 'Jersey Boy' Tapia (23-2) will make the move from the super welterweight division up to the middleweight division on May 7th to face former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux on the Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan pay-per-view undercard. Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3) returns to the ring on May 7th against Glen Tapia (23-2). The fight serves as the chief supporting bout underneath the Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan HBO distributed pay-per-view main event that takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be the inaugural boxing event at the T-Mobile Arena that is located next to the New York New York Hotel and Casino.
David Lemieux is 100-percent certain weight won’t be an issue for his May 7 fight against Glen Tapia. The former IBF middleweight champion is just three weeks removed from failing to make weight for his March 12 fight against James De la Rosa in Montreal. Lemieux came in nearly three pounds over the contracted weight of 163, three above the middleweight limit, and De la Rosa (23-3, 13 KOs) refused to proceed with their scheduled 10-round fight.
Oscar De La Hoya confirmed Tuesday what seemed obvious when the David Lemieux-Glen Tapia fight was made nearly two weeks ago. The winner of their 10-round middleweight match May 7 will become a potential opponent for Canelo Alvarez.
