Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3) returns to the ring on May 7th against Glen Tapia (23-2). The fight serves as the chief supporting bout underneath the Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan HBO distributed pay-per-view main event that takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be the inaugural boxing event at the T-Mobile Arena that is located next to the New York New York Hotel and Casino.
The fight will be Lemieux's first since his stoppage loss to Gennady Golovkin in October. Lemieux said that loss is in the past and he is ready for his next opportunity.
"My camp has been great. We are working very hard and we are easy for this fight. We are very excited to be on this show. It is a brand new arena. It is very exciting for me," said Lemieux.
The 27-year-old Lemieux was originally scheduled to return to the ring in March against James De La Rosa in his hometown of Montreal. However, the fight was cancelled when Lemieux missed the contracted weight and De La Rosa refused an offer of more money to fight at a weight higher than originally agreed upon.
Lemieux has put that setback behind him and has been in the gym ever since.
"I took zero time off. There was no time off and no vacation for me. I've stayed working," Lemieux stated.
Lemieux is excited to be part of history at the T-Mobile Arena and plans on making the event a memorable one.
"We are very happy to be fighting at the new arena. It is going to be a great night and a great show. I am very excited about fighting for the first time in Vegas. It is unfortunate that the other fight didn't happen but we are very excited for this one. Tge fans can expect a greats how," Lemieux told BoxingScene.com.
