  • Geale wants Golovkinin April, HBO a little hesitant

    http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id...-sydney-feb-19

    Pretty much right here:

"Geale wants to fight GGG in April, and I have spoken to HBO about the fight and all they say is that they are interested, but they are exploring other options," Shaw said. "What can be a better option than Geale, a true 160-pounder and a former world champion who beat [Felix] Sturm [in a unification fight] on German soil? And even though Daniel did not get the decision in [against Barker] he is willing to come back just to fight GGG.

"What I don't understand is that after the Barker fight, HBO said they wanted Geale back, and now they have gone silent. I know GGG would fight Geale as [Golovkin's team] asked if we wanted the fight in Monte Carlo, but Geale wants to fight him on HBO."
So Geale wants Golovkin, but only on HBO... but HBO don't know about it.
Makes me think they'll try and push Kirkland

Too early for the Kirkland-GGG fight, Geale makes more sense

Wasn't Geale vs Barker on HBO? And it was a pretty good fight too. Or am I thinking of something else?

So why would HBO be hesitant?

Kirkland would bring the bigger ratings. It would be an easier sell to the public.

HBO wants a bigger name. But they will take Geale if he's the biggest name available. They are just keeping there options open. That's how I'm reading it.

I doubt Kirkland is even a factor.

Because he was initially on there to build a fight up with golovkin, neither man was too keen of golovkin afterwards. Guess thy don't care now that he has no belt. I'd rather have that than Kirkland
