Do You Lift Weights Alot?
Collapse
-
If you're competing and boxing regularly, weights aren't necessary at all, atleast for upperbody, your speed will suffer..
if weights are something you can't stay away from, keep it to where you're only doing leg workouts, such as squats, deadlifts, lunges, etc.

So you really shouldn't weight train at all?
I'm new to boxing, and again, 6 foot, 135 pounds,
And I really don't have a lot of arm muscle at all. So I'm worried that I'm not strong or fast enough in my hands. I know it will take time, but shouldn't I weight train some in the arms until I at least get a sufficient amount of muscle?

Taking punches by someone really weak is a hobby of mine. It's like getting hit by 2 pillows

You're a CLOWN if you think weight lifting for boxing is good.
and Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali and plenty other extremely powerful boxers NEVER used weights as part of their training. (Mike Tyson started to in jail),
Only thing weights will do is cause injury and slow you down, speed equals power!
like I mentioned before, squats, deadlifts, and lunges are acceptable in moderation, a boxers power comes from his speed and his legs, think of all the powerful boxers, if they didn't have speed their legs were like tree trunks!!.
but don't only take my word for it only, ask any other boxing coach in your area, I'm sure they'll tell you the same.

For the billionth time, proper strength training is important for boxing, both bodyweight, and weights (when geared to boxing and not bodybuilding) are useful.
But that said, it is not necessary to lift weights to be a good fighter, plenty don't or haven't, but it can make you a better fighter.
Plenty of guys are huge punchers without weight training. I've seen skinny guys with no weight training who can punch like crazy, but if those guys added some weight training, then imagine the extra power.

yes you can weight lift, but not a lot. trust me most tough guys, who gained their weight in gyms, won't last 3 minutes in a fight.
i'm not trying to offend anyone, but I think old russian army training is BEst. it's all I do for muscles training, most people start at 14, and by the time they are 20, tehy have amazing body shape.
here is good example. - all you need is pul up bar and dips bar.
