There are reasons why America does not have the best heavyweights and part of it is because our bigger elite athletes are not boxing. If you can tell me that Eddie Chambers, Chris Arreola, Tony Thompson, and Monte Barrett are among America's elite athletes and pass a lie detector test, I'd be shocked.
The best boxing gyms in the world used to be in the inner cities of the US, where there were a lot of poor people. Most of the great fighters come from poverty.

Americans of all races have prospered during the past few decades, but poverty is still widespread in the Phillipines, Eastern Europe, and elsewhere. Some young people see boxing as an opportunity to escape poverty.

Because there are no ******s in the US any more? America still has some terrible ******s, but the poor kids just choose to play football or basketball now. I have read multiple articles on this very subject.

          Yes.

          Poverty and Opportunity.

Pre-World War II and Post World War II America is a very interesting topic.

In the end, if you are a boxing fan, you just want quality fighters no matter where they are from.

****** kids will go into the NFL, NBA, even MLB sports because of greater opportunity than boxing. At least you have a chance for a college education if the Pro level doesn't work out. Can't say the same for boxing. But even here, there has been a massive drop-off for MLB in poverty stricken neighborhoods. I still wonder if Soccer could become a popular sport here.

Compare the American HWs now to years past; it doesn't compare.

It has nothing to do with fighters like Wlad...I'm talking American talent only.
Is it that they are so bad, or that the Klitschkos are good?

I don't see that much difference, except the young American heavyweights like Chris Arreola, Malik Scott, Travis Walker, Rafael Butler, Eddie Chambers, Damian Wills etc. don't seem as hungry for success as their predecessors. If they were, they would stay in shape.

I wish American commentators like Teddy Atlas and Max Kellerman, and boxing writers like Eric Raskin and Michael Rosenthal believed that.

Then they would be fair to the quality fighters from other countries like Joe Calzaghe and Wladimir & Vitali Klitschko, and give them the credit they deserve.

They are really that bad. The list you provide is telling of the state the US HWs are in.

I can't even believe they are trying to hype up Chris.

Have any of them ever been in shape?

You look at the Klitschkos and David Haye (who is now a HW); that is what a HW contender should look like. Although, it's not so much about having a six-pack as it is having the ability of understanding how to be a very good boxer technically. These guys just............................eh, not worth discussing. Looking forward to prospects from any country. It's all about entertainment at the end of the day.

Imagine being a 16-year-old ****** and you're dating the hottest (real hot) chick in school and she's ready to give you some the night before your next amateur match. (Did I mention how fine she is?) You're about to slide her panties off when your 76-year-old trainer's face pops up in your imagination and reminds you that *** before a fight will result in your early demise inside the ring.

That's probably the night you decide you're gonna be a football player instead.

I could only imagine what Demarcus Ware would do in boxing. 6 ft 4 in and 260 pounds...plus he is a freak of nature in being extremely fast and quick on his feet. He is so quick that he gets flagged for penalties that replay shows were bogus because he beats his defender off the snap of the ball so quickly.
