Floyd earned his right to criticize Hunter and Ward as Kovie won

Floyd as the great champ and undefeated earned the right to call out others in boxing. Kovie did beat Ward and Hunter is n ot a top trainer at all. But the American judges gave Ward the victory and that is what matters.

Both Floyd senior , roger mayweather, Virgil have trained one all time great. I think it's the all time greats Floyd and Ward that made them or else they would have a stable of good very good and a few other elite champs but not on floyds and wards level they do not . Berto, khan, punching bag angulo? That virgils stable. Floyd senior ? Who they are great trainers but with those two I can name 20 trainers who could have went undefeated with them. Futch Arcel Goldman steward etc

Hunter has done a great job with Ward, and I think he improved Khan. He did a good job in the corner after Kovalev dropped him. People expect too much of trainers, a lot of guys just have a ceiling or are too far in their development to make the required changes. Manny Steward was one of the greats but a lot of fighters worked with him without showing noticeable improvements. So Berto not looking any better under Hunter doesn't mean much compared to what Hunter did with someone he had from childhood to elite level.

I feel like Ward coming back late in the fight suggests he had a good plan B, multiple planned out strategies to win rounds which suggests good coaching and preparation.

He beat Chad Dawson, Kessler, Froch & Abraham with Hunter. Why change the formula now?

As for the fight with Kovalev. He lasted 12 rounds with a guy a lot of people thought he wouldn't and kept the fight close enough to get the decision (whether it was earned or not is matter of opinion), so I don't get the hate for Hunter here.

I think Floyd's like a lot of retired athletes who see a younger guy getting closer to surpassing their legacy and now is hating a little bit.

He's got the belts, the gold medal in the Olympics, and is undefeated, and I think Floyd is thinking about 49 -0
well take away ward and what does hunter have? what other fighters did he turn into champions? angulo khan and berto all have bad ko losses under him and mares left him.ward would have been just fine with any other trainer.

Good interview . I agree with most of what Floyd said . Only thing I don't agree with is having Chocolatito P4P #1. # 1 P4P would not look like he did after his last fight against Cuadras . I'd like to say Kovalev but although I thought he won against Ward . I thought he gassed out early and chose the wrong gameplan in that fight .
When it comes to Virgil Hunter I also agree Ward may need a Change in the corner . Never really been a fan of Hunters stlye in the corner.

From day one I thought that Kovalev won the fight. But I also thought the fight was close. We're not talking Bradley vs Pacquiao type robbery.

So naturally when RJJ, BHop, Andre Ward, Paulie Malignaggi, etc commentate a fight, they are going to side with the defensive fighter, and score every close round for the defensive fighter.
one of those boxers you mentioned, does not belong. im thinking a guy who was P4P #1 throughout the 90s....

Hence ''undefeated.'' What does Ward have to do with this? Ward is still undefeated, and before the Kova fight, many industry articles were hyping Ward to surpass Floyd's legacy. Perhaps industry fueling TMT's mgmt to come back sooner than later.

It's easier to move to #1 when Floyd contextualizes Choco vs Ward. It's hard for Floyd to be #1 if Ward is at #2. Ironically Choco looked beaten and just survived against Cuadras... has Ward or Floyd's face ever looked like that?
Chocolatito won and Ward lost, get over it. You can say what you want about chocos face but he didnt have to get up the canvas.
