  • The Ali vs Norton Fights

Finally got around to watching this trilogy, I had Norton clearly winning all three fights. Do people here think Ali deserved to get the nod in any of these fights?

off topic: Did Norton ever train with Archie Moore?

Ali lost fairly clearly in the first meet, eeked out revenge in the second, & plainly lost the third, on my cards.

I had Ali winning most of the first half of the second fight with Norton coming on strong and dominating the last half

Norton won the first, I had Ali edging Norton in the second & third fights.

it depends on the scoring system though dosn't it? I'm pretty sure the scoring system the judges used was different.

the criteria is still the same
              1: ring generalship
              2: effective aggression
              3: clean punching

Norton clearly won the first fight when Muhammad Ali took him lightly.

Muhammad Ali won the 2nd fight 7-5,when he took Norton seriously and trained very hard for the fight.

Norton clearly won the 3rd fight when Ali was getting old and was getting close to being washed up.Muhammad Ali left a piece of himself in the ring in the Trilla' in Manilla' the year before.

If you would want to see what Ken Norton could do against a Prime Muhammad Ali(1966-67) before his 3 1/2 year lay-off,look at his 2nd fight against Ali,when Ali was at his best after his 3 1/2 year lay-off.

I have NEVER heard anyone over all the years say that Norton "clearly" won the 2nd fight until this thread.Would you like to score the fight round by round? I'm interested in seeing what rounds you give to Norton that he "clearly" wins the fight?

How does everybody think Norton would do against a Prime Muhammad Ali in 1966-67? I think Norton has a style that would even bother a Prime Muhammad Ali.I believe Ali would win a UD,something like 10-5 or 9-6 in rounds.

Norton clearly lost round 12 and certainly didn't "dominate" Ali the entire second half of the fight.

I agree with you I have to question the objectivity when one says Norton "clearly" won the second fight.
