    Sergey kovalev - overrated?

the guy can obviously punch but he has no head movement. i think clev beats him in a 12 round war. i wanna see how this guy reacts to being hit in the body as his chin looks bigger than the white cliffs of dover.

willing to take bets on this fight.

whats your thoughts on the "beast"

Good, aggressive fighter, but he's there to be hit.

I don't see much in the way of defensive nous. Sure if he catches you with his combinations, it's going to hurt, but against someone with a good chin like Cleverly, he isn't going to land his shots without receiving some back.

How will he react when he lands a combo and Cleverly sticks his tongue out at him before replying with his own solid combinations? Most fighters shell up against Cleverly and try to survive, as Kovalev won't do this, he's going to absorb some punishment that's for sure.

It's a close fight, but Cleverly should win on workrate. Tight rounds going to the hometown fighter.

I saw some of his more recent fight as well. He's got power and is aggressive as hell but he's pretty sloppy and seems very open to get hit.

I can picture him getting his ears boxed off by a good technical fighter who won't fold under his power and pressure. But he's exciting to watch and can make some very interesting fights. Maybe he can polish some of his skills with a new trainer? I never saw Cleverly fought.

He's a hell of an offensive fighter, but his defense definitely leaves something to be desired.

Nope, personally I think Kovalev is going to clean out 175 division and will fight andre ward sometime late next year. I've been saying this for almost a year. Sergey Kovalev is the absolute toughest possible fight for Ward out there, more so then golovkin. IMO.

While he hasn't shown the most elite defense thus far, I honestly think it's just him going into everyone of his fights so far knowing he's going to spark his opponent and not even worried about getting hit back because he knows he'll ice them. When/if he fights guys like ward and even cleverly in august, I think you'll see a more fluid Kovalev and not as "sloppy." I think you'll see a better defense and movement from him as he continues to step up, but just like GGG.... His offense is so good that he could honestly have the worst defense in the world and any fight he's in would still be 50/50 due to his monstrous offense alone.

His very techinically sound and has good boxing skills on top of his destructive power.... When you have that kind of an attack, it's easy to see why a guy can get a bit careless against opponents you know you're going spark anyway.

                He is what he is.

A limited, offensive machine that punches like a truck.

I love how the punches just flow from this guy. His Offense is his Defense though and he seems to have no regard at all for what his opponent offers back. How far he goes will depend on his chin, but he certainly does not try to protect it.
