  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Promoter: No Canelo Fight in 2016, Building For 2017

It looks like the highly anticipated clash between unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) and Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 32KOs) will not take place in 2016.

Solid move Golden Boy, Canelo will make money no matter who he fights... Let him test the 160 waters first before putting him in there with Lil G

As a Canelo fan, I'm disappointed because now I have to endure an year of people talking ****.

Canelo misses weight in 2014 in his fight with Angulo. He then goes on to fight Lara at 155, Kirkland at 155, Cotto at 155, and Khan at 155. All withing the middleweight division.

Now he's moving back down to a weight he couldn't make in 2014 and hasn't fought since. His next fight will be at 154. Then he'll take another fight above 154 to gradually move up to 160. So wouldn't it be easier to gradually move up from 155 to 160 than 154 to 160 especially when you've been fighting at 155 the past 2 years?

But GGG wouldn't make a similar deal with Ward because he has to unify even though he's fighting Eubank next. Both these dudes are frauds.

Pretty sad but atleast he's not fighting at 155.

Doesn't sound like anything concrete at all. And mind you, this more than a whole year away. Just about anything can happen in that time.

Shiet wasn't the Ward/Kov deal made a long time before the fight too? This could be legit.

Exactly. Only way this happens is if both guys keep winning from now on. If they're as good as we think they are, they will, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Either way, Tom better hope he had Canelo sign that contract in Spanish.
