Dustin Dirks: record, next fight and profile →
Sauerland Event matchmaker Hagen Doering confirmed reports that heavyweight Edmund Gerber (23-2, 14KOs) and light heavyweight Dustin Dirks (27-1-1, 20KOs) have retired. Dirks was knocked out by Oleksandr Cherviak in the tenth round in April and then went to a very dissapoiunt eight round draw with Tomas Adamek (not the popluar two divisin world champion) in August.
Schwerin, Germany - In an IBF final eliminator, Tony Thompson (38-4, 26KOs) was coming off back to back knockout victories over highly regarded David Price, but his momentum wasn't enought to overcome the talented up and comer Kubrat Pulev (18-0, 9KOs). The scores were 116-112, 118-110 and 117-111 for Pulev. The Bulgarian heavyweight is now in line for the winner of October's title fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin.
Hamburg, Germany - European light heavyweight beltholder and former WBO champion Juergen Braehmer (40-2, 31 KOs) saved the show for Sauerland Event by impressively annihilating his French counterpart Tony Averlant (18-8-2, 4 KOs) in the second round. Thus Braehmer put a halt to a two-fight upset streak, which saw the German team losing tow undefeated records (of Dustin Dirks and Jack Culcay-Keth) in back-to-back fights.
The weights are in for Sauerland Event's big card from Hamburg, Germany
The third championship bout has been added to the fight card in Hamburg, Germany on April 27. The fans at the Sporthalle Hamburg are already looking forward to the title fights between current European Light Heavyweight Champion Juergen Braehmer and Tony Averlant as well as Jack Culcay putting his WBA Intercontinental Light Middleweight Title on the line when he meets Guido Nicolas Pitto in the ring. Now it has been announced that Dustin Dirks (27-0, 20 KOs) will also be risking his first ever professional championship belt, the WBA Light Heavyweight Intercontinental Title. In his first defense the German will face off with Ukraine’s Oleksandr Cherviak (10-2-1, 3 KOs).
23-year old British cruiserweight Deion Jumah (1-0, 1 KO) made a devastating professional debut, knocking out Lithuanian Ruslan Bitarov (now 2-6-1, 2 KOs) with a single left hook to the liver with seconds remaining in the first round. Jumah (22-1, 13 KOs as an amateur), an alumnus of the famous Dale Youth Amateur Boxing Club and a two-time ABAE champion, will be back in a week against Ukrainian trialhorse Igor Pylipenko (3-12-2) in Denmark.
Dustin Dirks, reigning WBA I/C light heavyweight champ, has relinquished his position as mandatory challenger for EU champ Orial Kulaj. The official reason is of course that Dirks is to defend his Intercontinental title. Dirks scored a terryfying knockout over Kulaj, then 3-2, in 2009. Dirks was then 9-0 and is today 26-0 while Kulaj is 10-5. However, in his last two fights Dustin has looked pretty terrible even though he came out winning while Orial has won five straight and it appears to be a wise move to avoid a rematch where there is everything to lose.
20-year old German hopeful Tyron Zeuge was taken to the full route for the first time in his fourth professional bout. Zeuge experienced little problems with fellow undefeated Belgian Matingu Kindele (3-1), 28, dominating him to a wide unanimous decision. Kindele was way too wide with his shots, while the German light heavyweight was sharp, fast and resilient. Kindele was forced to take a knee in the third after the right hand of Zeuge to his body. BoxingScene had it 60-53 - for Zeuge (4-0, 3 KOs).
The weights are in for Sauerland Event's big card on Saturday night at Halle/Westphalia, Germany: In the main event, Marco Huck will defend his WBO cruiserweight title against former WBA beltholder Firat Arslan.
Hardpunching German light heavyweight Dustin Dirks, 25-0 (19), goes for his first title November 3 in Halle / Westfalen when he face Brazilian Cleiton Conceicao for the vacant WBA I/C title in a supporting bout to Marco Huck vs. Firat Arslan.
