Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20KOs) is very confident that he can derail the power-puncing run of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23KOs). The HBO televised main event will take place on June 29th at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, CT.
Macklin feels a lot better than he did against Sgerio Martinez, who stopped the UK fan-favorite in the eleventh round of a tough fight. Macklin came back in September and knocked out former champion Joachim Alcine in the first round.
"Stylistically I think he suits me a lot more than Sergio did. Good puncher, good variety [of punches]. I have a lot of respect for him but I feel that this [fight] is coming at the right time for me. All of the disappointment from the Martinez fight and everything that I learned from that fight. I think I'm better now that I was for the Sergio fight. Even though Golovkin is the champion, I'm probably the better and more seasoned professional and the more experienced fighter. He has had it his own way, but there are situations that he's not had to go through but that's why I'm the more experienced fighter. I think it's going to be a great fight and probably will become a war at the end," Macklin told BoxingScene.com.
