BoxingScene.com caught up with Vadim Kornilov, manager of former super lightweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov and several others, shortly after Floyd Mayweather's unanimous decision victory over Manny Pacquiao. While Mayweather won the super-fight decisively, the lack of action didn't satisfy many of the paying customers.

Kornilov said that he was swamped with messages after the fight with fans asking for a rematch between between Provodnikov and Lucas Matthysse. The two warriors battled it out on April 18th with Matthysse winning a close decision.

"After watching this fight I have hundreds of people that are contacting me directly or through social media and telling me that they want to see a rematch of Provodnikov-Matthysse even more after this weekend's fight. People did not get the excitement or the goosebumps in this fight that they usually get from a fight that someone like Ruslan Provodnikov or Lucas Matthysse is a part of," Kornilov stated.

"We will be working hard together with our promoter Art Pelullo of Banner Promotions to make sure that the rematch happens because these are the types of fights people want to see and are willing to spend their money on."

The fight against Matthysse had several ebbs and flows where one fighter would seemingly have control of the fight and then the other would seize it. Provodnikov badly rocked Matthysse in the 11th but the a Argentine was able to hold on and get through the 12th.

When Provodnikov burst onto the scene in a decision loss to Tim Bradley in March, 2013, the American had to take a knee in the final seconds of the fight to ensure a victory. Provodnikov has chased a rematch with Bradley for two years with no success. Kornilov hopes they don't have the same difficulties with Matthysse.

"If Matthysse takes the same position as Timothy Bradley and avoids Provodnikov at all costs, even if the cost is a detrimental loss of the amount of respect they get from their fans, we will be pushing to get a fight with one of the other top fighters in the division like Brandon Rios, Juan Manuel Marquez, or even Manny Paqcuiao.

"In reality Provodnikov lost to Matthysse and Bradley, and if they get a proper financial offer they shouldn't have a problem with beating Ruslan again. It's really a risk for Ruslan because a second loss to one of these guys can be a lot more detrimental to Ruslan's career and possibly the sunset of his career," Kornilov told BoxingScene.com.
