Manny Pacquiao winning a decisive victory over Timothy Bradley immediately sparked talks of the long talked about showdown with the sports pound for pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather. As reported by BoxingScene, earlier this week Top Rank CEO Bob Arum took shots at the MGM Grand for heavily advertising Mayweather’s upcoming May 3rd fight against Marcos Maidana and the matchup as a whole.

On Saturday night during the Pacquiao-Bradley post fight press conference he continued to bash both once again.

“Boxing survives anything and everything. The Mayweather fight I don’t think is bad for boxing. It’s bad for the public who is going to be talked into spending more money to see nonsense. And it’s bad for a property like MGM [Grand] to continue to peddle non competitive matchups. That’s who it’s bad for. As far as boxing is concerned it will survive; HBO by in large only puts on competitive fights” Arum told the media.

Arum was pointed out that one of HBO’s upcoming fights with Ruslan Provodnikov and Chris Algieri wasn’t the most competitive fight to which Arum fired back.

“Yes, Provonikov-Algieri is competitive. No it’s no competitive because you say so?? Now if you disagree and you feel that it’s not competitive by all means write it. You have that obligation to write it. I believe it’s competitive and it’s going to be a good interesting fight. If you feel otherwise by all means write it but at the same time, write it about Mayweather!”

The verbal onslaught has not let up since earlier in the week when Arum expressed his displeasure in the way MGM handled things in his opinion. He feels he only made all this his business because his business was messed with.

“I take the position that if it’s not of my business [I] don’t say anything but they made it my business by forcing the MGM to put up posters all over this property in conjunction when we are doing a major fight; so it became my business. They made it my business and it is my business. I mean I’m 82 but I always had one mantra: Don’t screw with me” said an animated Arum.

Even with his criticism of Mayweather and his upcoming fight, Arum would still want to make the fight with Pacquiao happen. When asked what it would take to finally get the fight made, Arum had an interesting response.

“The only people that can make Floyd Mayweather fight Manny is the public if they boycott the nonsense on May 3rd. That’s when the fight will happen. Without any pre conditions on any side. That’s what the public should do. You want that fight? Tell your readers not to buy it on pay per view and not to buy tickets for it” instructed Arum.

When asked if there were any other alternatives to getting the fight done, Arum said other options did not exist.

“There is no other [options]! We are prepared tomorrow – well [Mayweather] has a fight, a so called fight – we are prepared to sit down at a table with his people any time to work out the conditions to the fight.”

Arum said he would not begin to work on Pacquiao’s next fight until after May 17th when Juan Manuel Marquez and Mike Alvarado square off with the winner being the likely candidate for Pacquiao assuming a fight with Mayweather cannot be made.
