According to former two-division world champion Mikey Garcia, the negotiations have continued for a fight with Dejan Zlaticanin, who holds the lightweight title of the World Boxing Council.

At the moment Garcia says the fight is being targeted for late November or early December. The fight was being targeted for a date in October, as part of the undercard to Danny Garcia's next defense of the WBC welterweight title - but he wasn't able to reach an agreement with Andre Berto and the entire show got scrapped.

After a long legal battle with his former promoter Top Rank - Garcia snapped more than a two-year layoff back in July with a dominating knockout over fellow former world champion Elio Rojas.

Several names have been mentioned for Garcia (35-0, 29 KOs), but he says Zlaticanin (22-0, 15 KOs) has always been the first choice for his next fight.

Garcia is waiting patiently for his next fight and continues to train in the gym with his brother and trainer, Robert Garcia.

"The truth is that I'm used to this. I know how to be patient and I know how things happen, so this [fight] being postponed a month is not much. It's being said that it will happen in late November or December. That's what they told me, so I'm still training," Garcia said to ESPN Deportes.

"The fight would be for the WBC lightweight title. It was originally being handled for October. It was assumed that Garcia and Berto would be in the main event, and then they did not have enough time to finalize the card so we are still waiting. For that card they had mentioned Berto and Garcia and Abner Mares and Jesus Cuellar. It was a very solid undercard, but it never got done. I do not know if this new date is going to be the same card or not."

"[Zlaticanin] is a good opponent. From what I've seen in videos he is strong, has a lot of confidence. He was recently crowned champion and he is undefeated, and he certainly willing to fight everyone. It will be a very good fight."

The fight with Garcia will be an optional defense. The winner will have to face WBC 'champion in recess' Jorge Linares, who also holds the WBA title at 135 after beating Anthony Crolla last Saturday.
